What should a new boiler quote actually include?

The product is only one line. Here is what a clear installation quote should explain before you commit.

A boiler quote should contain more useful detail than ‘one boiler, fitted, cheers’. The work around the box is what makes the result dependable.

The short answer

A useful quote identifies the exact boiler and output, the installation scope, controls, flue and condensate work, system preparation, included materials, assumptions, exclusions, VAT and the conditions that could change the price.

What matters most

  • The proposed boiler should be named and justified, not simply labelled ‘suitable’.
  • Installation, system preparation and controls need their own clear scope.
  • Access, flue, condensate and existing-system assumptions should be visible.
  • The final price should follow an appropriate technical check.

The exact product—and why it fits

The quote should state the manufacturer, model, boiler type and output. More importantly, it should explain why that specification suits the property and hot-water demand.

Bigger is not automatically better. A recommendation should account for the heating system, bathrooms, likely simultaneous use and any change from the existing arrangement.

The installation around the boiler

A replacement can involve more than removing one appliance and hanging another. The quote should make the supporting work visible so that two prices can be compared fairly.

  • LocationWhether the boiler stays in place or moves, and what making-good is included.
  • Flue and condensateThe proposed route, terminal position and any access requirements.
  • ControlsThe thermostat or controls included and what will be commissioned.
  • System preparationHow the existing system will be cleaned, protected and tested.
  • Removal and handoverOld equipment disposal, commissioning information and customer handover.

Assumptions should not hide in small print

Photos and online questions can cover a standard replacement well, but they cannot prove every site condition. Restricted access, unsuitable existing pipework, non-compliant flue positions or unexpected building work may need a different plan.

A clear quote states what has been assumed, what Vireo still needs to verify and how any change will be discussed. ‘Price confirmed after technical review’ is more useful than certainty that disappears on installation day.

A total you can understand

The quote should distinguish included work from optional upgrades and show the total with VAT. If choices are offered, each option should have a meaningful difference—such as controls, warranty terms or specification—not just a new badge and a larger number.

Any deposit, payment stages, cancellation position and warranty conditions should be presented before acceptance, not discovered afterwards.

Competence and compliance are part of the job

Gas work must be carried out by a business and engineer registered and competent for that work. Building-regulations requirements also need to be handled through the appropriate route.

Vireo will only add registration numbers or scheme badges to public material when the evidence has been verified against the business doing the work.

Compare the job, not just the boiler.

A low headline price can become expensive if important work has been left vague. Equally, the highest quote is not automatically the most complete. The useful comparison is product, preparation, controls, flue and condensate work, access, protection, handover and aftercare—line by line, with the same assumptions applied to each.

Vireo’s approach is to make the first estimate useful without pretending a form has seen the whole property. We gather the right information early, confirm the technical detail at the appropriate stage and put any change in front of you before the work is agreed. A boiler quote should reduce uncertainty, not merely move it to installation morning.

Before you move forward.

Can a boiler quote be confirmed entirely online?

Some straightforward replacements can be assessed with detailed questions and guided photos. Vireo still confirms the technical scope before treating the price as final.

Should the quote include system cleaning?

It should explain what preparation and protection are included and whether further cleaning depends on the condition of the existing system.

Why might two boiler quotes differ so much?

They may include different products, controls, flue work, system preparation, warranties or levels of making-good. Compare the scope line by line, not only the total.
